TECKWRAP CRAFT VINYL SETTINGS FOR THE BEST CUTS
Welcome to our very first blog together! I’m so excited to show you why TeckWrap is the vinyl I recommend and how I use it every day.
I asked you what to write about in my first blog and you told me that you needed help with the correct settings for cutting TeckWrap vinyl. I will walk through three types of vinyls I currently use, showing results for different settings and which setting I find best for each.
When your vinyl doesn’t cut properly, snags or tears, or doesn’t weed easily, it can be so frustrating! For reference I use amazon cricut blades, a cricut maker, and cricut/realike cutting mats. If you don’t have a Maker, I list the pressure beside each case so you can use the “custom” option and input the setting manually. Let’s get into it!
Regular Solid Vinyl
The first vinyl is a solid regular vinyl in the colour liveable green. For every cut I will be using the red (shallow) blades from amazon. I have selected one of my most intricate designs to use for all cases so we are able to really get a good idea of how well each setting works.
The results are in! The following cuts are on the vinyl setting.

As you can see here, each pressure setting had basically the same end result;, therefore I would continue to use regular pressure on the vinyl setting for solid colours. It may look like this didn’t cut very well - with some pieces of vinyl missing or lifting, but remember these pieces are ones that will be weeded out, and have only shifted because they are completely cut and extremely small. The edges that we will be using are perfectly intact.

Glitter and Holographic Vinyl
One of my favourite vinyl categories! I love how the sparkle or texture of a vinyl can add life to my projects. Because these materials are thicker, we may have to change the settings to get the absolute best cut. Let’s test!
Using Holographic Glass Flower vinyl in Aqua

Wow! These results actually shocked me. It looks like the glitter vinyl setting seemed to outperform the premium holographic which I did not expect! The premium holographic setting looks like it was cut well, with some tiny pieces lifting (these will be weeded so that's ok), the glitter vinyl cut with no lifting, and regular vinyl produced the same results as the holographic setting. But the truth lies in the weeding! Here we go..
I knew it was too good to be true! The first image is the premium holographic setting which left my vinyl completely intact and weeded easily. Second image is the glitter setting which did not cut all the way through and was hard to weed! Third image is the regular vinyl setting which didn’t cut my edges all the way through, so I was actually left with the pieces that I wanted to weed out. Let’s weed out the premium holographic completely.
Perfection. Clear winner here!

Pattern Vinyl
Last but not least is pattern vinyl. Depending on the one you choose, these can be the thickest of vinyls, therefore a little trickier to cut. Let’s go!
Using Buffalo Plaid in White
A little hard to see because of the pattern but here are the first look results:

This is a really thick material, so I used my regular vinyl setting to test in the first cut. At first glance, I don’t think it cut all the way through the material. For the second cut I went with a setting that I thought would do really well with the thickness - the chalkboard vinyl setting. This had one area of lifting, but overall looks good. I couldn’t give up on my regular vinyl setting, so for the third pass I chose regular vinyl with more pressure.
Let’s weed to see the results!
Interesting! All settings weeded surprisingly well, but one definitely stood out from the rest. Image 1 was the regular vinyl setting which weeded.. Just “ok”. Some parts were not cut all the way through so I had a tough time pulling them out. The second image is our chalkboard setting which actually blew me away! The cuts were crisp and clean which made weeding super easy. The third is the vinyl “more pressure” setting which cut well, but was not as clean as the chalkboard setting.

And there we have it! Three different categories of vinyls and their best settings on the Cricut Maker. Every machine will operate differently, so it’s important to do a tiny test cut of your design before committing to one setting. Make sure to clean your machine and blades often to keep your cuts clean and crisp.

What’s the best setting on my Cricut Maker for
Holographic Vinyl Glossy Candy Color Adhesive Vinyl from teckwrap. I have use several different settings and pressure and I can’t get it to cut. I have wasted so much vinyl trying to get the best setting.

Love this overview! Can you also test the settings for the color changing vinyl? I am in love with the cold color changing vinyl but am having a hard time getting my cricut maker to cut it so weeding doesn’t feel like an impossible task. Thanks :)
